Departure feels imminent for us - we leave in two weeks! This trip has been a dream for us since we started our family. It has really come into focus in the last two years as we began to believe it was possible. We have slowly, methodically, been working our way through a daunting list of things to do, reasons why not to go and the fun of plotting and negotiating our ideal route. Now, our house is rented, our dog is cared for, and our tickets are booked, and the giant to do list is mostly done.
Reflecting on what got us to this point, it feels like a million small decisions that amass to this big adventure. We hope this blog will help us recount the tales of travel - so that you can feel a part of it - and so that it may inspire some to venture further. Our vision for this site is to share each of our voices - Ian, Erin, Finlay and Jasper - about the good, the challenging and the humourous ins and outs of travel, worldschooling, planning, eating, staying, and communicating throughout the year.
We feel the universe is helping us manifest this dream - along with many of you who are supporting and following our adventures. We have been so humbled with the help and connections that have already been made for us - each of these are important nudges that keep encouraging us forward to take this giant leap.
As we look forward to departure day we feel a mix of excitement, curiosity and fear. Excitement for the chance to see and learn so much that will be new to us. Curiosity of who we will meet and what we will learn and feel about ourselves as we embark into the unknown. And fear of what could go wrong, how will we cope, and "are we crazy" to be leaving great lives, rewarding careers, the best dog ever and the most amazing family and friends.
Overwhelmingly, we feel gratitude. To have each other in our family of four willing to say yes to planning and undertaking this adventure. To have the support of our friends, family, colleagues and community. And to the world - for all that it will show and teach us as we try to tread lightly through it.
Special gratitude to a few for helping us believe in what is possible (in no particular order):
Nancy, Eric, Ivy & Sierra

We love you all
